What is a Zine?
A zine is a small-circulation, self-published work that's made by one person or a small group. Zines are hobbyist-created and typically based around a niche interest. They can be circulated either in person or online and can include a variety of creative materials, such as text, images, artwork, and found objects. The term "zine" is short for "fanzine", which is a blend of the words "fan" and "magazine".
What is Hermitzine?
Hermitzine (a portmanteau of "Hermitcraft" and "fanzine") is a not-for-profit zine centered around the Hermitcraft Minecraft community. Hermitzine has been in publication for five years with nine total editions published so far. Each edition focuses on a different theme, which is then extrapolated upon by 50-75 participants and polished into a digital publication by the moderation team.

Hermitzine: Ninth Edition
Hermitzine 9, known amongst the production team as "H is for Hermitcraft" and "the ABC edition" interchangeably, is structured like an old-school children's alphabet book, with one team of two artists and one writer assigned to each letter of the alphabet.
With over 250 pages of content, it’s the longest edition of Hermitzine yet.

Hermitzine: Eighth Edition
Hermitzine 8: The Music Edition is what is says on the tin: a zine focused on a song, musical artist, or genre that inspired our participants. This edition includes a hyperlink to a YouTube playlist of all the musical media our participants were motivated by, including a song created specifically for the zine.

As the sole editor of Hermitzine, I’m the one to assemble the pdf document in InDesign, creating the template for the contributors’ work to be placed into. I develop the look of and format the written contributions. For the core elements of the project, I brainstorm and design the title page, credit pages, and section headers. I contribute typography to the front cover and endpapers.
